Hybrid Innerspring Mattress
So, one of the first and simplest things a person can try for their back pain is a great mattress. And it doesn’t have to be a bed that breaks the bank, believe it or not.
Hybrid innerspring mattresses are a relatively new type of bed that combine memory foam and traditional innersprings, giving a medium-firm feel that can feel great for the lower back. Remember, however, that mattresses are a personal thing and what one person loves another may not. However, the hybrid innerspring mattress types are extremely popular and get rave reviews.
One of our panel members bought a very expensive, top of the line memory foam mattress for $3200. Because it was memory foam, she sank down into it and hurt her back even more. She ended up ordering a Linenspa hybrid mattress (pictured below) at a fraction of the cost of her original purchase, and her back pain has been way less ever since! (results may vary.).
Linenspa Queen Mattress
Linenspa queen mattress. An immensely popular hybrid memory foam and innerspring mattress that provides great support. We prefer the medium 8 inch profile!
Thera Massager | TheraCane
Theracane. A trigger point massager that can be used on your own to treat sore and painful muscles. The reviews speak for itself!
Ettore Grip n Grab
Ettore grip n grab. When your back is hurting, you usually have to be careful when bending. This nifty grab tool can reach things as small as an almond on the ground or something as big as a dropped towel. Makes an absolutely fantastic gift!
Oxo Upright Sweep Set
Oxo upright sweep set. We call this our “movie theater lobby” sweep set. It minimizes wear and tear of constantly bending over to empty a traditional dustpan. This would make a great little gift for anyone with back woes! It comes with an even longer extendable version for taller people as well.
Rolling Laundry Cart with Hanging Bar
Rolling laundry cart. Instead of lifting laundry constantly, we like to use this cart! It also has a very convenient hanging bar for things that need to be hung up immediately. We love it!
Healing Back Pain Dr. John Sarno
Healing Back Pain book. While this book won’t apply to everyone, it’s very interesting to explore whether or not back pain has an emotional component. A very popular book and worth exploring!
Massage Pillow with Heat
Shiatsu massage pillow with heat. This massage pillow can rest behind the lower back, and can be used at home or in the car – take it anywhere you think you might need it!
Adjustable Bed Wedge
Adjustable bed wedge. Pieces can be adjusted for maximum comfort – whatever feels best while relaxing, reading, watching tv, etc.
Recliners for Back Support
A lot of times, sitting on a very soft chair or couch can make back discomfort seem worse. You may have noticed your mom, friend, grandma, or anyone you know with back pain pull up a harder kitchen dining chair in the family room because it feels better to them to sit in something firmer.
Recliners are great in the arsenal of back relief tools. When you sit in them, you can customize the angle of your body to an angle that feels the best to you.
Because each person is different – different weights, heights, etc., we feel it would be best to take your “giftee” and let them choose a recliner that feels the best to them (and that they like/fits their decor!). It will be the gift that keeps on giving! La-Z-Boy has some updated and modern recliners that match every décor and even have charging ports for your phone/tablets, etc.
Front Load Washer and Dryer Set
We added this one last because it is a true splurge. If you are able to splurge (like if this is for your wife or mom!), this would be an awesome gift!
Our panel member who has back pain says this is her favorite back saver ever. It prevents the person doing the washing from constantly having to bend over – like he/she would with a top load machine. If you do splurge for this, be sure to purchase pedestals to go under each one, which raise it up to waist level on most people. This will prevent even more bending.
Quick Tip: Ask around to find out when Lowe’s or Home Depot hold sales on major appliances. They almost always have big savings around most holiday weekends!
That’s it! We hope you enjoyed our picks! If you have suggestions for our readers, please leave them in the comments section below!
